Wind of Culture in 2026 on Andros
In the summer of 2026, Andros will welcome a new Wind of Culture, a creative call that will sweep through every corner of our island, bringing inspiration, knowledge, art and optimism.
Culture has always been the soul of Andros; it is our history, our traditions, our people and the creative force that unites us. Theatre, music, dance, visual arts and traditional activities will breathe life into every community and highlight the unique character of our island, through a rich programme of events.
Andros is being transformed into an open cultural space, where the past meets the present and tradition engages with contemporary creativity. A place where people, ideas and values come together, inspiring, moving and creating new prospects for the future.
I invite you all to take part in this great celebration. Let us become fellow travellers on a cultural journey that unites generations, highlights our identity and showcases Andros as a beacon of creativity and openness in the Aegean.
Having faith in the strengths of our island and love for Andros, let us welcome the Wind of Culture 2026 together.
Andros creates, inspires and takes journeys into the future.

B&E Goulandris Foundation
Germaine Richier (1902-1959)
Conversations
14.06 - 27.09.2026
This summer, the B&E Goulandris Foundation is delighted to present an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Andros dedicated to Germaine Richier (1902–1959), one of the most important figures in 20th-century European sculpture. The exhibition, titled Germaine Richier (1902-1959) – Conversations, will open to the public on June 14 and will run until September 27, 2026.
The exhibition will be presented in the west wing of the Museum in Andros and retraces the entirety of Richier's artistic career, which, despite her premature death at the age of 57, left an indelible mark. Richier was awarded the Blumenthal Prize at the age of 34 and was the only female sculptor to participate in the landmark exhibition The New Decade, organised by MoMA in New York in 1955. In 1956, the Musée national d'Art moderne in Paris (National Museum of Modern Art) dedicated a major retrospective exhibition to her—a distinction that, until then, had been granted during an artist's lifetime only to Henri Matisse.
A student in the studio of Antoine Bourdelle, Richier began with the art of busts and, already in the 1930s, moved away from the academic framework, developing a more liberated sculptural language in which the human element coexists with the animal and plant realms. In the 1940s, her research expanded further, leading her to reassess the very foundations of sculpture, as well as the metaphorical dimension of her work.
The exhibition is curated by Marie Koutsomallis-Moreau, Head of Collection at the B&E Goulandris Foundation and Laurence Durieu, an expert on Richier's work and the author of her biography Germaine Richier - L'Ouragane.

Pantelis Voulgaris’s note
Twelve summers in Andros.
Twelve years at the Open-air Theatre of Andros Town; a meeting place for people, stories, musicians, images and silence. A place that does not just host performances and concerts, but moments that stay within our soul.
The Andros Festival was born out of the need for a vibrant cultural core on the island. Year after year, this goal has become a reality thanks to the love of the audience and the participation of artists. And it goes on.
In a fast-paced and often noisy era, theatre, music and cinema continue to unite us in a deep and meaningful way. They remind us that we still need to experience emotions together, to listen, to look and to share.
Andros has its own special power. The daylight; the wind on the rocks; the courtyards; its people. And when the night falls at the theatre of Andros Town, all of these seem to converse with art.
I want to thank everyone who supports this effort; the artists, the employees, the volunteers, the Municipality of Andros, the sponsors, but above all the audience that every year fills the theatre, giving this festival a reason to exist.
I hope that this summer will give us evenings to remember at the stone theatre.
See you in Andros.

32nd PLOES
A ‘man walketh as an image’
As it does every summer, the P. & M. Kydonieos Foundation is hosting the PLOES art event on its premises. This year, the 32nd PLOES takes its title from the philosophical verse by Prof. David: ‘Surely man walketh as an image’. Through selected works by 22 notable contemporary artists, curated by art historian Ms Athina Schina, the exhibition presents the diversity and specific meanings of the ways in which the image is shaped in art, opening up avenues of reflection and exploration for viewers, on existential questions and spiritual needs. It also subtly highlights the realities in which we live today, awakening consciences and raising concerns regarding key issues of our time.
Opening: Saturday 25 July, 8.00 pm. Exhibition dates: 25/07–04/10/2026
Opening days and times: 10.30 – 14.30 and 18.30 – 21.30 daily, except Tuesdays.

The photographs come from the personal collections of Andriots, date from the late 19th century and depict all aspects of human life, using the power of the image to highlight the island’s intangible cultural heritage.
